Imported/Opened documents are sometimes empty when auto-opened

When importing a document - through either the "Open Document" button or a vscode link - the document will sometimes show as `{}` in the text editor and `(No /title)` in the tree view and not load.

Reproduce the issue through the Open Document button and a VSCode link, then trace the import and auto-open flow to determine why the document appears as `{}` and `(No /title)`. Done means imported documents consistently load with their content and title in both the text editor and tree view.
