Description

The only output of sigma function is the standard deviations away from average, but without the average it's hard to reason if the value is higher or lower than normal without looking at the accompanying data.

For us, in some cases, whether recent activity is higher than normal or lower than normal is important, we'd like to differentiate in our alert criteria.

Research direction

Start by locating the Sigma Stateful function implementation and its tests in the Kapacitor repository. Define how a companion mean value should be exposed alongside Sigma, add coverage for higher- and lower-than-normal activity, and verify the resulting alert criteria behavior.
