Description
A model with no author-provided environment map is rendered with a default environment map. And model should render consistently across platforms, roughly. For this consistent rendering we would need to specify the default environment map.
- How can we specify the default environment map? A specific reference file, or a more general characteristics?
- And what should the default environment map be generally i.e. a 3-point studio setup?

Research direction
Start by examining how the element currently handles an absent author-provided environment map and whether the repository contains rendering guidance or related tests. Resolve the desired default-map characteristics and reference behavior for cross-platform consistency; done means there is an agreed, implementable specification.
