Description

The ImageJ2 Swing UI uses bitmaps for the toolbar icons. ImageJ 1.x uses a low-tech vector graphics approach which draws the icons. The IJ1 approach has the advantage of looking much crisper on higher resolution displays, especially Apple's Retina and similar.

Research direction

The issue does not name files, tests, or an entry point. Start by locating the Swing toolbar icon implementation and comparing it with ImageJ 1.x's vector approach; done means toolbar icons render crisply on high-resolution displays, including Retina screens.
