Description

while entering:

case "${BASH_SOURCE:-$0}" in
  */*) dir=${1%/*}; [ -z $dir ] && echo "/" || echo $dir ;;
  *) echo "." ;;
esac

it outputs:
the parser doesn't support 'pattern' constructs in the command you tried.

So, as the output says, I report it.

thank you

Research direction

The report names no files or tests. Start by reproducing the command containing the case statement and parameter pattern, then trace where the parser emits the unsupported 'pattern' message. Done means the command is parsed without that error and its constructs are handled appropriately.
