User experiencing orphans in online textbook behind password

The user has textbooks through a university library with an online login. Ex: https://www-clinicalkey-com.arktos.nyit.edu/#!/content/book/3-s2.0-B9781455770052000056?indexOverride=GLOBAL
They are annotating using the Chrome extension, and a textbook with lots of annotations (> 400) will load slowly and/or crash. When it does load, the annotations tend to appear as orphans. Looking at this user's annotations in the database, it looks like most of them are highlights.
The user has tried the Bookmarklet in Firefox with the same results. Refreshing the page does not increase the number of annotations that are anchoring.
