Description

As demonstrated by the benchmarks in this reddit post, you can see the rust_tonic_mt benchmark falling behind in performance as the number of threads are increased.

The likely cause for this could be that a big portion of the shared state is behind this Mutex.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the rust_tonic_mt benchmark results and inspect the shared state around the Mutex in src/proto/streams/streams.rs. Profile performance as thread counts increase, then determine whether contention there explains the scaling gap. Done means the cause is verified and the benchmark shows improved multicore scaling.
