How do I gain access to functions in py file in a different directory

Hello, it seems I cannot link to a directory containing a python file with functions I would like to use in a jupyter notebook. the directory where the python is located contains an __Init__.py file and is accessible with from src.filename import function_name from commandline and jupyter on my mac.
