Ongoing work with solar radiation example

The NREL solar radiation viz example PR #335 has a few more examples that could be added (see the unfinished TODO list in that PR). Also this example can be useful for machine learning on time series with [elm](https://github.com/ContinuumIO/elm) (NASA funded ML project).
