can open Realm client, but cannot connect to other ships?

I can update and launch the realm desktop client for Linux (ubuntu 23.04), and my urbit ship (~topfet-parmed https://topfet-parmed.tlon.network) seems to be correctly running the realm gall agent. However, my realm "DM" messages no longer update from June 23rd 2023 and my realm client repeatedly attempts to re-establish its connection (to what I don't know).

I doubt these groups are simply inactive, as they include Other Life, Forerunners, and The Forge.

Likewise, when I send a realm message, it seems to work, but then no record of the message is persisted into the realm chat log for the given channel; this was also working in the past.

I am not having any issues reaching my ship on this same PC via my browser and I am not sure of the cause. My ship is connected to the urbit network proper, receiving updates, messages, and all sorts of data as expected from all other apps outside of realm. Also, I think it would be helpful if clicking the gall tile from within my ship's garden interface would launch some kind of app health dashboard, instead of just opening the Holium homepage.

Is this gall agent up-to-date?

No repository files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by reproducing the Realm desktop client's connection attempts on Ubuntu 23.04 and compare them with the ship's browser access and gall agent status. Done means Realm reconnects, receives DM updates, and persists sent messages in the channel log.
