Metric with long description sends error to console

When I create a metric with a description exceeding 255 characters, the error message ends up going to standard out instead of the logs.

Reproduce the issue by creating a metric with a description longer than 255 characters, then trace where the error is written to standard output instead of the logs. Done means the error is routed through the project's logging path rather than printed to the console.
