Bug: Thread reply doesn't show up

**Summary**

Because there’s a 2-second lag when deleting a message, I clicked delete **twice** on the same thread reply message. This successfully deleted the reply, but when I sent another reply to the thread, it looked like the top-level message had no replies (even though my reply is visible in the thread).

**Steps to reproduce:**

1. Click “reply in thread” on a message
2. Send a message to reply to the thread
3. Click to delete your message **two times**
4. Wait for the reply to be deleted (takes 2 sec)
5. Send another new thread reply

**Actual Result**

New reply is visible when the thread is opened, but original (top level) message appears to have no replies
