Description
[Imported from JIRA. Reported by Tim Watson [Administrator] @hyperthunk) as NT-2 on 2012-12-18 13:44:13]
These would obviously be implementation dependent, so the API is likely to be rather loosely defined with String keys and so on. Making statistics available is likely to be very useful to administrators, particularly when trying to optimise the network topology for a distributed application.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the Network.Transport API and the issue’s requirement for implementation-dependent statistics. The issue names no files or tests, so first establish the API scope and completion criteria for exposing administrator-facing statistics before planning implementation and validation.
