### Resources/Instructions
#### Notes
When should the young person not speak to probation
If you are going to spend the night in juvenile detention
Before you have met with your lawyer
Let them know what they need to do to keep you safe- Medication, illnesses, disabilities,
similar to the medication issue, I would share any known disabilities (diabetes, ADHD, PTSD, etc) that might affect their interaction
Probation has a role that is like law enforcement, you do not have confidentiality, what you say here can be reported back to the judge or da, understanding that they might say they are there to help you, but they represent the system not you. They have a conflict of interest.
The staff who are here are monitoring you.
Your behavior can help or harm you.
Bonnie's summary
You cannot control everything that happens here, but what you can do is manage the way you navigate the new environment. It will be scary and it's important not to totally shut down, while you are advocating for yourself. Keep in mind that everyone other than your lawyer should not hear anything about your case.
Do Take a deep breath, talk slowly, clearly and respectfully when answering questions or asking for what you need
Do disclose medication issues or known disabilities, triggers, need for an interpreter, etc.
Don't talk about the case

I have summarized the advice into the following - just sending to you
You cannot control everything that happens here, but what you can do is manage the way you navigate the new environment. It will be scary and it's important not to totally shut down, while you are advocating for yourself. Keep in mind that everyone other than your lawyer should not hear anything about your case.
Do Take a deep breath, talk slowly, clearly and respectfully when answering questions or asking for what you need
Do disclose medication issues or known disabilities, triggers
Don't talk about the case
17:18:20 From Alicia Virani (she/her) to Bonnie Wolfe (she/they) - Hack for LA(Direct Message):
Wow so great, Bonnie!!
17:19:04 From Alicia Virani (she/her) to Everyone:
I'll start us off with something Sarah said: You are about to talk to a probation officer and probation officers are like police.
17:19:55 From Doreen Govari (she/her) to Everyone:
From Leah G-O: Even though you may want to talk about your case with someone, don’t talk to or trust Probation, they are police.
17:20:11 From Vivian Wong, she/her to Everyone:
Tell them if you have a disability and need anything to make you feel safe or understand what's going on. For example, let them know if you need an interpreter or medication at a certain time.
17:20:11 From Sampda Kedia to Everyone:
Don't talk about the conduct that you have been arrested for; only communicate what you need for your physical safety and personal needs.
17:21:29 From Zoe Rawson to Everyone:
Observe your surroundings closely. Slow down when it gets overwhelming and ask questions but don’t offer information because it may not be used to help you
17:21:40 From Emily Cardona to Everyone:
Your time to talk about your case will come, right now is not that time.
17:22:04 From Taylor Schooley to Everyone:
I totally need more time but will send to you later but especially ditto what zoe wrote!
17:22:21 From Leah Pinedo to Everyone:
See these individuals as police and someone who will testify against you. Some truly care and some don't. Don't be afraid to ask questions they have a job because of you . Treat them as such
17:22:26 From Alisa Blair (she/her/hers) Special Advisor to DA Gascon to Everyone:
Probation’s job is to come up with a plan believing that you are guilty of a crime. Do not tell them anything that will make them think you do bad things. Only tell them what you need like medicine or help with school. For example, if you say that you are in a gang, they will tell the judge that you need to be removed from your neighborhood.
17:22:48 From Zoe Rawson to Everyone:
You deserve respect
17:27:35 From Alicia Virani (she/her) to Bonnie Wolfe (she/they) - Hack for LA(Direct Message):
Do you have the chat or should I save it?
17:28:21 From Doreen Govari (she/her) to Everyone:
