Description
Our recent experience in Roboto with producing the vfont work with the possibility of the composites being subset brings up an issue with Roboto Extremo accents.
This has little effect on the Ascii delivery as there are no composited of diacritics, but for later.
We decided from the start that for a broad design space we'd want separate accents for upper and lowercase, and for single and stacked use.
The additional sets of accents do the most good in the very narrow and wide, light and ultra areas of the design space where the differences between upper and lowercase widths and weights become more pronounced. Special stacking accents become more useful in the heavy weights.
If required, we can make it so subsetting would revert to compositing with a single set of accents. or do further Harfbuzz research to see if glyph substitution or something can composite using the case and stack-specific accents.
let us know your thoughts.
thanks
