Description

Hello,

I am exporting a variable font straight from a Glyphs file and I have the Keep Glyphs parameter in both the named instances as well as the variable font instance in the Glyphs file.

Fontmake does not respect it and still exports the full exportable glyphs set.

I've tried adding --subset but the result is the same.

As per documentation fontmake is supposed to respect Keep Glyphs. Am I wrong?

Thanks

Research direction

Start by reproducing the export from a Glyphs file with Keep Glyphs set on named instances and the variable font instance, both with and without --subset. Compare the generated glyph set with the configured parameters and consult the fontmake documentation referenced in the issue. Done means the export respects Keep Glyphs for variable fonts.
