Contribution Model and Future Plans

I wanted to start a conversation with y'all about how we might collaborate as heavy users of Release Please who are not at Google. I am on the Node.js Platform Team at Netflix and have been chatting with @lukekarrys who is on the npm cli team at Github. We both are using Release Please and have hit some issues, additionally @lukekarrys mentioned he had some changes which might be larger he wanted to make after having set it all up for `npm`. So what we wanted to ask is, what is the best way for us as Node ecosystem users to contribute back here and how can we keep up with changes which might impact us?
