How do I change the version number

In the past, using https://github.com/googleapis/release-please, it was possible to customize the version number for the next release through the method mentioned in this link: https://github.com/googleapis/release-please?tab=readme-ov-file#how-do-i-change-the-version-number. Is there a way to do this currently? Or is this a feature to be added?
