Description

Material Symbols already has icons for religious buildings, but they aren't great to identify at a small size. Google Maps already has icons for religions so I'm not sure whether it could be possible to add them here as well.

Currently Google Maps doesn't use the star and crescent for Mosques and just shows the generic "church or temple" icon. Maybe using ["Allah" written in caligraphy](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Allah3.svg) like Wikipedia uses for the Islam series and portal could be an option.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the religion icon examples, the Google Maps concept art, and the linked Allah reference to determine which symbols and visual constraints are appropriate. Done would require an agreed icon set and acceptance criteria, but the issue does not name repository files, tests, or a settled scope.
