Description

Hello Google Fonts team,

I would like to request support for the Syriac script in Google Fonts.

- Script: Syriac (ܣܘܪܝܝܐ)
- Regions where used: Middle East (Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon), diaspora communities worldwide
- Number of speakers/users: Approx. 500,000 – 1,000,000 (used for liturgy, heritage, and publications by the Syriac Orthodox, Assyrian, Chaldean, and Maronite communities)
- Example text: ܒܫܡ ܐܠܗܐ ܚܝܐ (In the name of the Living God)

Currently, Google Fonts has no Western Syriac script support. Adding Western Syriac would help preserve and promote digital accessibility of this ancient script, still actively used in education, culture, and religion.

I understand that fonts must be open source (SIL Open Font License preferred). There are already open-source Syriac fonts available, such as:

- [Meltho Fonts](https://bethmardutho.org/resources/syriacpc/) (SIL Open Font License)
- [Noto Sans Syriac](https://github.com/notofonts/syriac

) (by Google, via Noto project, under OFL)

please check an example of this font on this website (https://dss-syriacpatriarchate.org/%d8%b1%d9%88%d9%85%d9%8a%d8%a9/)

It would be very helpful if one or more of these could be added to Google Fonts for broader use.

Thank you for considering this request!

Best regards,
Rabee Kisto
