Alegreya Sans unspecified PDF embedding issue

An internal user wrote,

> Hi, I am an art director with [Something] Publishing, and I had a printer in the EU reject my PDF file because it had Alegreya Sans embedded in it. They said this font doesn't render correctly, so their policy is to reject any files that include it. Have you heard this complaint before, and if so, has it been addressed and/or resolved? Thank you!

I expect it will be tricky to reproduce this, but if we can, the FB check will be worthwhile :)
