Expansion of project tree UI is unintuitive

It's not at all clear that there's a difference between clicking on the chevron versus the rest of the button. Because of this, I couldn't figure out for a while how to collapse a folder after I'd selected it.

I don't know what the UI should look like instead, but this is confusing.
