x++ has side effects?

Is there any reason why this can't be compiled into empty output?

```javascript
/** @type {number} */
var x = 0;
/** @type {number} */
var y = x++; // x + 1 results in empty output
```

Current output:
```javascript
var a=0;a++;
```
