Description

A lot of IRC channels these days are bridged with Matrix channels and people on Matrix (and sometimes on IRC) sometimes have long usernames, such as programmerin-wonderland. I've set the nick-padding width to 20 but apparently that's not enough for some of these usernames. It would be nice if usernames are clipped/trimmed to the maximum width I've set.

Research direction

No source file or test is named. Start by locating the nick-padding configuration and the code that renders IRC usernames, then check how the configured maximum width is applied. Done means usernames longer than that width are clipped in the display while shorter names retain the configured padding.
