Description
For people that already have https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-copilot-chat, is there any reason to install this mcp if you do not want to use it outside of VS Code?
As far as I am aware there isn't.
https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-copilot-chat already bundles this Github MCP.
So install option 1 for vscode should be to not install anything at all, since you already got it bundled with https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-copilot-chat .
For more complex use-cases (Enterprise instance, MCP available system wide, ...) the github-mcp-server could be the preferred way to run the MCP.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the existing VS Code installation documentation and the linked vscode-copilot-chat context. Confirm how the bundled GitHub MCP affects installation, then clarify the first option and distinguish enterprise or system-wide cases where github-mcp-server remains appropriate.
