Description

Trying to add an AHP host via SSH never completes. Windows on both client and server.

The last thing I see in the log is "github_app::remote_host::ssh::install: compatible copilotd not found; installing pinned version destination="meron-1" version="0.7.3"" and after that nothing happens. Some blank ssh.exe windows pop open and close over a few seconds until one finally stays open forever. Nothing else ever happens to complete adding the AHP host, it just keeps spinning the loading spinner and the ssh.exe window remains open.

Regular "ssh meron-1" works fine. Remote shell is powershell 7, in case it matters.

The ssh.exe that remains open seemingly forever has the following command line:

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\ssh.exe" -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=10 -o ControlMaster=no -o ControlPath=none -- meron-1 "powershell -NoProfile -NonInteractive -EncodedCommand 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"

Decoded, that blob seems to be: $ErrorActionPreference='Stop'; $root=Join-Path $HOME '.copilotd\bin'; $zip=Join-Path $env:TEMP ('copilotd-'+[guid]::NewGuid()+'.zip'); $tmp=Join-Path $env:TEMP ('copilotd-'+[guid]::NewGuid()); try { $input=[Console]::OpenStandardInput(); $file=[IO.File]::Create($zip); $input.CopyTo($file); $file.Dispose(); New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force $tmp,$root | Out-Null; Expand-Archive -LiteralPath $zip -DestinationPath $tmp -Force; $exe=Get-ChildItem $tmp -Filter copilotd.exe -Recurse | Select-Object -First 1; if (-not $exe) { throw 'release archive did not contain copilotd.exe' }; $staged=Join-Path $root 'copilotd.exe.new'; Copy-Item $exe.FullName $staged -Force; Move-Item $staged (Join-Path $root 'copilotd.exe') -Force } finally { Remove-Item $zip,$tmp -Recurse -Force -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue }

So it reads the zip file from stdin. Presumably the failure for anything to happen is a side-effect of the stdin never closing. I wonder if this may be related to the SSH shell being PowerShell 7 instead of something more oldschool like cmd.exe? (Disproven)

Research direction

Start at the github_app::remote_host::ssh::install entry point and reproduce the Windows-to-Windows setup using the logged ssh.exe command and PowerShell 7. Trace whether the archive sent through standard input is closed, then verify that adding the AHP host completes without a stuck ssh.exe process or loading spinner.
