## What I Love About GitHub Copilot Desktop
Looks really cool and easy to catch up with the workflow. If you really plan well, you can beat Devin and Windsurf with this.
### 🌟 Things I Really Like
1. **Session-based workflow** — The ability to have multiple project sessions open like browser tabs is incredibly intuitive. No other AI coding tool does this as cleanly.
2. **Plan → Execute model** — The plan mode with approval gates gives confidence before changes are made, unlike competitors that just start modifying code.
3. **Multi-repo awareness** — Having all my projects configured and accessible from one place with isolated worktrees is a huge productivity boost.
4. **Background agents** — Being able to delegate tasks to sub-agents while continuing work is a game-changer for parallel productivity.
5. **Git-native workflow** — PR/issue-driven sessions that tie directly into GitHub's ecosystem feel natural and reduce context switching.
6. **Canvas system** — The side-panel canvases (editor, browser, terminal) make it feel like a full IDE experience within a chat interface.
### 🏆 How This Can Competitively Beat Devin & Windsurf
| Feature | Copilot Desktop | Devin | Windsurf |
|---------|----------------|-------|----------|
| GitHub integration | Native (first-party) | Third-party | Third-party |
| Multi-session parallelism | ✅ Multiple project sessions | Limited | Limited |
| Plan approval gates | ✅ Built-in | Partial | No |
| Cloud + Local execution | ✅ Both | Cloud only | Local only |
| PR/Issue-driven workflow | ✅ Native | Manual | Manual |
| Sub-agent delegation | ✅ Explore, task, review agents | Single agent | Single agent |
| Ecosystem (MCP/Extensions) | ✅ Extensible | Closed | Limited |
### 💡 Suggestions to Stay Ahead
- Keep improving the orchestration layer (spawning child sessions) — this is a unique differentiator
- The workflow/automation scheduling is powerful — lean into it for CI/CD-like developer routines
- Canvas extensions ecosystem could become a moat if opened to community contributions
