Description

**Mood:** 😔
**Category:** General

In general, copilot isn't good at modifying itself. I asked it to find and install matt pocock's grill-me skill and it failed hard - digging through the copilot SDK typescript interface files for skillDirectories, then grepped the github runtime libraries in /Applications/Github Copilot/ before falling back to searching the internet again, finding https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/concepts/agents/about-agent-skills and discovering that skills live in .copilot/skills. This all took about 7 minutes with Opus 4.8 on Max.

GH Copilot should have its own self-referential skills for updating its own skills and settings

Research direction

Start by reviewing the Copilot SDK TypeScript interface files and the documented .copilot/skills location referenced in the report. Clarify which self-referential skill and settings behaviors are in scope, then define an acceptance check showing Copilot can discover and update its own skills without the reported fallback search.
