Description
I prefer sops over git-crypt but I like the filter pattern. Is there a good way to prevent a file that matches a filter from being committed unless is encrypted?

Research direction
Start by reviewing how sops and git-crypt use Git filter patterns, focusing on whether a filter can reject matching files that remain unencrypted. Done means establishing and documenting a clear supported approach, or documenting the relevant limitation if no such approach exists.
