Summary

*double-clicking on docx document causes the docx to open in writer but a mystery icon opens instead and takes possession of the doc itself.
*similarly, double-clicking on docx document causes the docx to open in startcenter where it often doesn't open at all.

none of the buttons work in this box, nor do the submenus in that weird icon. which, I'm assuming, is startcenter?
/home/brent/Desktop/box.png

this started the first day I installed 10.10.2 and has persisted daily

Steps to reproduce
  1. double-click a word docx as an email attachment or in nemo
  2. watch it immediately launch startcenter icon which vacuums it up, leaving libreoffice-writer empty/inused
  3. most of the time the docx will not launch from -startcenter. No document opens
Expected result
  1. double-click a word docx as an email attachment or in nemo
2)watch the doc opened in libreoffice-writer
Actual result

watch it immediately launch startcenter icon which vacuums it up, leaving libreoffice-writer empty/unused. Note most of the time the docx will not launch from -startcenter. No document opens.

icon on the right is what I assume is the startcenter icon suddenly opening.

WORKAROUND has been to open -writer and do the old school Open/navigate to file, in -writer but one strange move it will get vacuumed up by the -startcenter and possession of the document bizzarely transferred from -writer to -startcenter

Research direction

Start by reproducing the DOCX launch from Nemo and an email attachment in the reported Budgie/Solus environment, observing the separate Writer and Start Center icons. Compare this with opening the file through Writer's Open action; done when the document consistently opens in Writer without Start Center taking possession of it.
