Summary

When I use the “Switch windows of an application” shortcut with the default keybinding (Super+² on a fr-AZERTY keyboard), the behavior does not seem correct.
In Vivaldi there is no switching at all, and in Nemo it only toggles between two windows instead of cycling through all open windows.

Steps to reproduce

Nemo

  1. Open five windows of the application Nemo.
  2. Press the “Switch windows of an application” shortcut (default Super+²).
  3. You will see that it only switches between the last two active windows of the application, and not between all five window instances.

Vivaldi

  1. Open two windows of the application Vivaldi (stable native Solus package).
  2. Press the “Switch windows of an application” shortcut.
  3. Nothing happens: the shortcut does not seem to be recognized and no switching occurs (there is no conflicting shortcut defined inside Vivaldi).
Expected result

The “Switch windows of an application” shortcut should cycle the focus through all open windows of the currently focused application.

Pressing the shortcut repeatedly should move the focus from one window of the application to the next, until all of them have been visited, and this behavior should be consistent for all applications (including Vivaldi).

Actual result

With multiple windows of the same application open, the “Switch windows of an application” shortcut does not behave as expected.

• For Nemo: with 5 Nemo windows open, the shortcut only toggles between the last 2 active windows. The other 3 windows are never reached by the shortcut.

• For Vivaldi (stable native Solus package): with 2 Vivaldi windows open, the shortcut has no effect at all. The focus never changes and there is no sign that the shortcut is being recognized, even though no conflicting shortcut is defined inside Vivaldi.

Research direction

Start by locating the Budgie implementation of the default “Switch windows of an application” shortcut and reproduce the behavior with five Nemo windows and two Vivaldi windows. Compare the observed focus changes with the expected cycle through every open window, including whether the shortcut is recognized in both applications.
