Description

Problem Statement

Current view displays each project icon it inherits from framework (GIN, Flask, React, HTML, etc'). For monoglot multi-project (e.g multiple golang microservices) this cause an issue where viewing distributed traces or errors cause a significant hardship understanding which service does a span come from.

Solution Brainstorm

Best scenario in my opinion:

  1. Distinct color separation by project (currently all spans are pinkscale colors and different by factor i couldn't pinpoint other than "autogrouped")
  2. Customizable project icons
  3. Display project slug per span in waterfall

Research direction

Start in the Explore views for distributed traces and errors, and inspect how inherited framework icons, span colors, and waterfall labels are currently presented. Compare the three brainstormed options—project colors, custom icons, and project slugs—and confirm the intended scope with maintainers. Done means projects are distinguishable in the affected Explore views according to an agreed design.
