Cannot change page template to external

Hi,

It seems I cannot change a page template to external (link) for example if it has sub-pages .
I just wanted to do it to avoid a dropdown menu being created for it but it seems I have to fix in the code for the theme..

No files, tests, or entry points are identified in the issue. Reproduce the problem by trying to select an external template for a page with sub-pages, then trace the page-template and dropdown behavior in the admin plugin. Done means the external template can be selected without an unwanted dropdown, including when sub-pages exist.
