Redundant PowerPoint Rig

My theater company needed an upgraded setup for a redundant power point playback system that we install and remove several times a year. Saw a great opportunity to implement a mini rack to reduce the system’s complexity and have some fun with some new equipment.

A DeskPi Rackmate T1 Plus 8U Rack

- 2x Lenovo 1L computers in the GeeekPi 1L Rack Mounts

- Assorted cables, adapters, and converters
- Custom DataPro.net rack panel on the back for the I/O
## Some fun challenges included
1. Maintaining compatibility with the current VGA based projector until funds exist to upgrade
2. Maintain a duplicate analogue video signal of the projection output to feed the audio describers booth
3. Simply and document the setup
## Learnings
* Most equipment got ziptied or nano-taped to an 8” 1U shelf. The KVM and Network Switch are both attached to the same shelf, one on the top one on the bottom. This worked well.
* Would have loved a PDU that was outlets and not tails but couldn’t find one that had a front facing power switch with rear outlets and was in my budget.
* I used the 1U Half-Width Rack Plate from the website thinking it would fit because dimensions matched. However, the screw hole slots were too wide, and the return flanges were also too wide. I had to modify the plate in our shop to get it to fit in the rack. If I was doing it again, I’d start with a custom blank panel and design the screw holes in myself.

All in all a fun project for me!
