Description
Hello, I would like to present my rack that was designed and built to be as robust as possible while still being 3D printable, even on small printers like the Prusa Mini. 👉 **All the models will be linked at the end.** 👈
## Overview

It uses [Rackfinity](https://www.printables.com/model/1188493-rackfinity-v1-open-source) as the base rack system and has several models designed to hold a ThinkCentre mini PC, HDDs, PSUs, Switches, Routers, Pis and more. Currently mine sits at 7U of space and contains:
- M920Q mini PC and it's PSU
- 4x 8TB HDDs
- 1x FlexATX PSU
- 1x 2.5Gbit/SFP+ switch
- 2x Raspberry Pis
Occupying 5U of space, the remaining 2U are reserves for:
- EdgeRouter X
- Radio modules (zigbee/SDR/others)
- Status display (small motion activated VFD display to show alerts from monitoring software, temps and other stuff)
- etc.
## Power
All of the hardware in the rack is powered by 2 power cables connected to the UPS. This is because all of the hardware besides the thin client is powered from the FlexATX PSU. A custom wiring harness and power distribution board lets each device get the 5V or 12V it needs.

(Fun fact, most networking gear can be powered from lower voltages than the ones specified on the case. Usually even 5V is enough for a "12V" device. To know more you can tear it down and look at the DC-DC converter that sits on the input.)
The UPS is a Eaton Ellipse ECO 650, it's small enough to nicely sit under or to the side of the rack, has NUT support over USB, and can have it's beeper disabled while on battery. Also, allegedly it will turn back on even after fully depleting the battery but I never tested that.
The entire system turned out to be quite efficient, at an idle of ~40W with drives spinning and without the UPS, or ~55W with drives spinning and the UPS. And ~20W drives idle no UPS and ~30W drives idle with UPS.
## Mechanical Design
Since [Rackfinity](https://www.printables.com/model/1188493-rackfinity-v1-open-source) uses threaded rods to tighten all the printed parts together and allows you to use side panels, this rack can be almost as robust as full metal ones. I am planning on ordering some metal side panels for mine. But even as is, with just M6 threaded rods, it's already super solid and I can easily move it around with all of the hardware inside. The "teeth" the [Rackfinity](https://www.printables.com/model/1188493-rackfinity-v1-open-source) system provides reduces sag even for very thin 3D printed modules. Additionally, the rack can be expanded in the future with just a few printed pieces and longer threaded rods.
I've had the most fun designing the modular module (pun unintended) (Can be seen in the rack at the top holding a switch and 2 Raspberry Pi Boards). The idea here is to not waste a large part you printed if you intend to swap out hardware. So, instead you print smaller pieces that attach whatever you want to the modular plate. It uses flared M3 screws on the bottom and nuts in the printed parts to hold modules in place. For example I have my switch, 2x Raspberry Pis, cable gland and power distribution board on one of these. And if I were to switch out any of these I wouldn't need to reprint the entire 1U module. It also bolts everything in place unlike a simple shelf.
Below are the currently published models, I will keep updating this with new ones as I design and release them. They should also be compatible with regular 10 inch racks without the teeth, but double check before printing. But both Fusion 360 and STEP files are included so you can modify them as you need.
