Include more “calls to action” / invite more tinkering

Description
As pointed out by @sonosoos, it would be a good idea to invite people to play with the tutorial code more; this should help them make that tutorial feel more like *theirs*, and also learn better how the various pieces interact.
To do:
- [ ] Figure out what relatively-accessible modifications can be suggested
- [ ] Implement them
