Description

Description

This seems to happen in Azure DevOps Pipelines when running as root:

https://github.com/isaacabraham/vsts-fsharp/issues/33

Repro steps
  • Unset HOME on linux
  • Run the netcore version of paket (I think the full framework one might not have this problem)
Expected behavior

Paket works

Actual behavior

Paket crashes

Known workarounds

Set HOME

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue on Linux with HOME unset, using the netcore version of Paket as described. Trace the startup path to identify where the missing environment variable causes the crash. Done means Paket runs successfully without HOME, while preserving the existing workaround of setting HOME.
