This issue has come up a few times already and the resolution in those cases is to stop processing when another paket.dependencies file is encountered, but my reasons for wanting this are a slightly different.
For most of my solutions Paket install takes 1-3 seconds after the first time which is awesome, but I have one really big solution where Paket install takes over 8 minutes simply because of the number of files in the solution.
In my case all of the .csproj files are 1 directory below the solution and there is no need to scan any deeper. I suspect that this is the majority use case.
Known workarounds
I can create dummy paket.dependencies files in each sub-folder to stop Paket from going any deeper, but this feels like a real hack.
