`2.8.0` Breaks Previous Implementation

Hi there,

This is such a great library!

However I'm having an issue. I was not paying attention, but it seems that a new update has been released. The new version `2.8.0` breaks everything.

I honestly have no idea what happened.

My current workaround is to revert to version `2.7.1`

Please advise :)
