Can Profiles be included in promotion and will they include the proper elements only?

Hi,

I believe I have seen a poster here mention deploying profiles and [having a problem](https://github.com/forcedotcom/devops-center-feedback/issues/92) where it didn't include/detect other changed profiles. So my first question I believe is answered, but for completeness, I'll included below:

1. Will Salesforce detect profile change and can they be deployed as part of the work item?
2. Will Salesforce only include those relevant elements from the included profile(s) that related to the metadata being deployed?

As I mentioned, I believe the answer to my first question is Yes, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Regarding my second question, a team member reported an issue to Salesforce a while back that when source tracking is enabled and a security profile is included as part of a deployment, Salesforce has included non-changed / non-relevant elements in the profile deployment, overwriting profile configuration in production that should not have been included. I don't have the exact setup he experienced this with, but thought I'd mention it incase it rings a bell.
