Project Summary:

SafeRide is an open-source DePIN driver safety network that uses edge AI for real-time fatigue and distraction detection, IoT telemetry for vehicle dynamics, and tamper-evident incident logging. Currently, safety event data is logged on Solana for immediate verification, but historical archives and bulk telemetry datasets have no decentralized storage layer.

This project adds Filecoin/IPFS as the permanent storage backbone for SafeRide's safety event archives, raw telemetry logs, and model training datasets. By anchoring historical data on Filecoin, SafeRide creates insurer-grade, tamper-evident records that are independently verifiable and permanently accessible.

The problem: centralized cloud storage for safety data creates single points of failure, censorship risk, and trust issues for insurers and regulators who need to audit historical records. Filecoin solves this by providing decentralized, content-addressed storage with cryptographic proof of retrievability.
Impact:

Filecoin currently lacks real-world DePIN use cases that generate continuous, verifiable data streams from physical-world sensors. SafeRide brings exactly that: a live pipeline of driver safety telemetry from edge devices that needs permanent, tamper-evident storage. This demonstrates Filecoin's value proposition beyond static file storage.

The pain point: insurers and fleet operators don't trust centralized safety data because it can be altered or deleted. Without decentralized storage, DePIN safety networks can't achieve the trust guarantees needed for real commercial adoption. Getting this right proves Filecoin as infrastructure for safety-critical IoT data.

Success looks like: 10+ drivers generating continuous telemetry archived on Filecoin, at least 1 insurer or fleet operator using Filecoin-stored records for claims verification, and an open-source reference implementation that other DePIN projects can fork for their own storage needs.

First 100: Open-source SDK release + documentation targeting DePIN hackathons and Filecoin ecosystem events. SafeRide is committed to long-term maintenance as an open-source public good. Post-grant, the project will be sustained through: (1) revenue from premium analytics tiers for insurers/fleet operators, (2) additional grant funding from Solana Foundation and other DePIN ecosystems, (3) community contributions via the open-source SDK. The two founders are committed to maintaining the Filecoin integration as a core part of SafeRide's architecture indefinitely.

Relevant Experience:

Siddhartha is an ML researcher (ex-Hugging Face, current Research Fellow at University of Nottingham) with hands-on experience building CV pipelines, Go backends, Solana integrations, and edge AI deployment. Built SafeRide from scratch including the MediaPipe inference pipeline, Pico W + IMU telemetry kit, tamper-evident Solana logging, and SvelteKit dashboard. Also built AQUAZAP (Android pentesting framework) and contributed to open-source ML tooling.

The team has direct access to driver networks in Northeast India for pilot testing, and both founders are technical with complementary skills in ML/CV and backend/storage infrastructure.
