# Project Summary

A live, working prototype is already deployed and publicly verifiable.
Live demo: https://observation-commitment-protocol.vercel.app/

The Observation Commitment Protocol (OCP) is a deployed system for creating tamper-evident, verifiable records of digital content. It enables users to generate cryptographic proofs that a file existed at a specific point in time and has not been altered—independent of any centralized platform.

While decentralized storage networks like Filecoin solve persistence, there is no standardized, user-accessible layer for verifying the integrity of what is stored. OCP addresses this gap by introducing a commitment layer that produces portable, independently verifiable proofs of data authenticity, designed to integrate directly with IPFS and Filecoin.

This project extends OCP to natively integrate with Filecoin/IPFS, linking verifiable proofs to persistent storage (CIDs). The result is a unified system where data is not only stored permanently—but can be proven authentic, unaltered, and independently verifiable across contexts.

---

## Impact

Filecoin solves storage. OCP solves trust in what is stored.

Today, decentralized storage guarantees availability—but not authenticity. There is no widely adopted primitive that allows developers or users to verify that stored data has not been altered or misrepresented over time.

OCP introduces this missing layer.

By combining verifiable commitments with persistent storage, this project enables:
- verifiable archives of journalism, research, and public records
- tamper-proof datasets for AI, science, and governance
- cryptographic audit trails for digital content

Without this layer, stored data remains vulnerable to ambiguity, disputes, and loss of trust. With it, Filecoin becomes not just a storage network—but a foundation for provable digital truth.

Success means:
- developers adopt OCP as a standard integrity layer
- Filecoin gains a new class of trust-critical applications
- data stored on Filecoin becomes independently verifiable across systems

---

## Outcomes

### Core Deliverables
- Native integration of OCP with IPFS/Filecoin (CID-linked proofs)
- Standardized, portable proof format (hash + CID + metadata)
- Developer SDK and CLI tools for proof generation and verification

### Functionality
- Submit content → generate proof → store on Filecoin
- Retrieve content → verify integrity against proof
- Perform independent verification without trusted intermediaries

### Success Metrics
- Number of proofs generated and verified
- Volume of data anchored and stored via Filecoin
- Developer adoption (integrations, forks, usage)
- Successful end-to-end verification across environments

---

## Data Onboarding

- Month 1: 1–5 GB (prototype + testing)
- Month 3: 10–50 GB (pilot usage)
- Month 6: 100+ GB (expanded integrations)
- Month 12: 500GB+ (scaled adoption)

---

## Relevant Experience

The project is led by the creator of OCP, who has already designed, built, and deployed a working system for verifiable digital records. The system demonstrates end-to-end functionality, including content submission, proof generation, and independent verification.

This work combines distributed systems thinking, cryptographic verification, and real-world usability—positioning OCP as both a technical and practical solution.

Research direction

This is a broad grant proposal rather than a scoped repository task. Start by reviewing the linked observation-ledger repository and deployed demo, then compare them with the four milestones; completion would require the proposed IPFS/Filecoin integration, portable proof format, SDK and CLI, and deployment testing.
