flute settings -import doesnt work

Well it works sometimes, if I import the settings I just exported.
But on a fresh install, or on a different machine, it dies while importing.
The error seems to be a null pointer exception.
I'm guessing data is missing from the config when it imports (probably some unserializable object).

Also I have installed a dev environment to work on the code, but when I run it, it just sits at the splash screen and never enters...
Hints on that might help me debug the issue. There are other features i'd like to add as well.
