Tabs crash with "exited with error" notification on tab

Description
At what seems like random intervals tabs crash with this notification. It seems to occur more often when a command or script exits with a non-zero code, but can also happen when tab completing (eg this particular time happened when tab completing `git`.
On Windows 10 (1903, build 18362.267) running wsl shell.
