Request to publish SAM checkpoints on GitHub or Hugging Face

Hello SAM maintainers —

Huge thanks for open sourcing the Segment Anything model and dataset. Currently, the official checkpoints are only available from Meta’s download server (`[dl.fbaipublicfiles.com](http://dl.fbaipublicfiles.com/)`).

Would it be possible to publish the official SAM checkpoints via **GitHub** (e.g. in releases or via Git LFS) or on the **Hugging Face Model Hub**? Our institution only allows for pulling checkpoints from these two places. Here are the models we would like to access:

Review the three checkpoint URLs in the issue and compare the requested GitHub and Hugging Face Model Hub options, including the stated Git LFS alternative. Confirm whether the official SAM checkpoints can be hosted through either approved location and document the selected distribution path. Done means the listed checkpoints are publicly retrievable from GitHub or Hugging Face.
