Run tests against null backend on CI

Description
This issue is to add `null` backend back to the CI matrix. Currently tests are not run against null backend.
Features such as #534 are intended to be toolkit agnostic. With that, we should make sure the test suite for these features can be run with the null backend.
I guess in order to solve this issue, we will need to solve #244 too.
