Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Reproduce it on Windows 10 with an Immediate Viewport on a different screen, measure the frame rate, and compare it with the viewport on the program's screen; done means the cross-screen setup no longer drops to about 30–40 FPS.
