Certain fonts not working

In my config, i set "font=Gohu GohuFont 11". This hasn't worked and mako is reverting to the default font. the output of fc-match "Gohu GohuFont" shows: gohufont-11.pcf.gz: "Gohu GohuFont" "Regular", so i know that i used the correct thing. I have tried all kinds of combinations and other things, but for this certain font it just doesn't seem to work... setting other things like background-color in the config work, literally everything works but for some reason it can't parse the font. no error messages or warnings were displayed when i ran "mako" from the terminal. Please help!
