computer immediately suspends when switching accounts

I share a computer with my partner. When one of us uses our account for more than our suspend timer in our accounts is set for, the computer suspends first thing when we log in.

**Example:**
Suspend is set for 15 minutes. My partner uses the computer for 30 minutes, and then I log back into my account. The computer enters suspend immediately upon successful login.

Not sure if this is a related issue, but it also appears to automatically enter or transfer carriage returns immediately upon login if I have a text file open and in focus.
