Assign mouse buttons to keyboard shortcuts

I have a mouse with extra buttons, specifically, a horizontal scroll wheel which reports its usage as a pressing and release of either button 6 or 7, depending on which direction I'm scrolling.

I'd like to assign this to switch workspace left and right. If I could assign mouse buttons like keyboard shortcuts, this would be trivial.
